Speaking
Boyd brings the subjects people often struggle to discuss into the open—with research, lived experience and a career spent helping people in crisis.
How stress sustained through work affects people, and what a more informed response can look like.
Clear, compassionate education about experiences that too often go unseen.
Research and lived experience shared to build understanding around difficult conversations.
Boyd’s perspective
“It is easy to find someone with book knowledge to present these topics. But someone with book knowledge and lived experience is better!”
Boyd Merrill
Boyd’s story
Boyd’s perspective was shaped by years working with people in difficult moments—and by his own experience with complex PTSD.
Before policing, Boyd worked for five years as a correctional officer in New Brunswick while attending UNB full time and studying psychology and related subjects.
He went on to serve a 30-year RCMP career as a Staff Sergeant, assisting people facing serious problems, mental health issues and moments of severe crisis.
Boyd was one of the original founders of the RCMP National Health Committee, which framed the RCMP National and B Division Mental Health Strategy. He also founded the B Division Fallen Members Fund.
Today, he brings research and personal experience with complex PTSD into conversations about mental health.
Boyd’s message begins with a personal conviction: what we do for other people matters. The people in his life give that principle its most immediate meaning.
For young audiences
Think about drugs.
Boyd’s one-man show reached a great many young people over the years. Rather than simply telling kids to say no to drugs, he encouraged them to think about it.
